With
tropical ecologist Dr. Lee Harper!
TRINIDAD & GUYANA
September
19-28, 2008
This
great itinerary will start with two nights in Trinidad
at the famous Asa Wright Nature Center. Here we will
explore this tropical paradise, enjoy the hummingbirds,
and look for the famous oil bird in its cave. At sunset
we will glory in the spectacle of the scarlet ibis.

We
will then fly to tropical Guyana, on the northeast coast
of South America, which offers some of the best tropical
bird and wildlife viewing in the Americas. We will stay
in two remote lodges at interior rainforest and savannah
locations where we can look for everything from harpy
eagles to giant anteaters. We will see remote Kaieteur
Falls, the tallest single drop waterfall in the world.
We
will then head for Beganara Resort, reached by river
boat from the capital Georgetown. We will travel with
Dr. Lee Harper, a veteran of the savannahs and rainforests
of South America, an exceptionally affable and well
informed tropical ecologist.
$2,995 + air. Limited to 16 participants.
(P.S.
Fall is the ideal time to visit this area—it is
the dry season, and Trinidad and Guyana are south of
the Caribbean hurricane paths.)
