From the Continental Ice Cap to the Aurora Borealis!

GREENLAND & ICELAND
September 10-23, 2005 (M/V Professor Molchanov)

Discover Iceland, a land of dazzling volcanic activity, and then board our expedition vessel in Reykjavik, and cross the Denmark Strait to Greenland, led by historian and geologist Ian Stone and naturalist glaciologist Dr. Willy Weeks. In Iceland, we'll see the geologic plates which form the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Along the coast of East Greenland, look for the famous animals of the Arctic: polar bear, narwhal, bearded seals, dolphins, barnacle and pink-footed geese, rafting seabirds, humpback and blue whales. The mountain scenery is out-of-this-world, with glaciers calving into the sea and vertical fjord cliffs. Hike to the Greenland continental ice cap and see ancient coastal settlements and modern Inuits. Learn about Eric the Red's journey 1001 years ago and Fridjhof Nansen's in the last century. Enjoy the aurora borealis in clear night skies! From $4,695 + air (2004)
