TRANSIT OF VENUS
Siberia & Lake Baikal
June 3-14, 2004

Join us on our 12 day journey as we explore Siberia and Lake Baikal and see the Transit of Venus.

We begin in Moscow with visits to the Kremlin, Armory Museum, political offices and historic buildings. There will be a special visit to Star City, where Russia's cosmonauts and astronauts form many countries train. We will then journey to Irkutsk, the "Paris of Siberia" with gold domed
churches and charming wooden homes with blue and green shutters. The next day we will go to the Lake Baikal Solar Observatory where we will spend the afternoon viewing the great natural phenomenon, the Transit of Venus.

Afterwards we will travel more than 250 miles up Lake Baikal, a fabulous reservoir of unique flora and fauna. It contains more than 1,500 species unique to Baikal, and hundreds more species on the surrounding mountainsides.

We will explore Pribaikalsky and Zabaikalsky National Parks, the fishing village, school and museum of Olkhon Island and other fascinating destinations.

Our expedition will be led by Dr. Aleksey Golovko, A Solar Astronomer: Dr. Vladimir A. Fialkov, Director of the Baikal Museum and Dr. Victor Kuzevanov, Director of the Botanic Garden of Irkutsk State University.
