on the National Geographic Sea Bird
Cruise the mighty Columbia and Snake Rivers, taking in the scenery and splendor of this storied region. Aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird, you'll journey into history, following in the wake of Lewis and Clark to discover a diverse and bountiful region cultivated over thousands of years by its indigenous people. See time layered in the riverbanks, where the Missoula Floods of 15,000 years ago carved much of the route you travel and the landslides of 500 years ago altered the river’s course by a full mile—events the expedition’s geology expert will explain. In fact, the full expedition team puts everything into context, weaving an ongoing narrative from each day’s events.
Fall is harvest time and the region bursts with flavors from the orchards we see, and in the dining room as we provision the ship from local markets, vineyards, and breweries, some of which we visit. Enjoy nightly tastings of the region's best wines Enjoy complimentary wine and craft beer during dinner.
Hear about the native heritage and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. See modern marvels of human engineering — imposing systems dams, locks and large-span bridges we travel through. Enjoy exploring by zodiac, kayak and hiking, a farm-to-table lunch, visits to historic Museums and Parks.
